SÄNGERIN
Silvia Christophs soulvolle Stimme sorgt seit vielen Jahren für Aufmerksamkeit beim deutschen Publikum. Mit Studioarbeit und Live-Auftritten wird ihr Talent von einigen erfolgreichen Musikern geschätzt, darunter Udo Jürgens, Udo Lindenberg, Vicky Leandros, Roland Kaiser oder Frank Zander.
„Mit 3 Jahren, begann ich, auf die Bühne zu steigen und mit Mamas Gitarrenbegleitung vor Publikum zu singen. Schlager, Volkslieder, Zweistimmiges. Und irgendwann, mit 8, brachte mir mein Klavierlehrer, außer Harmonielehre, ganz nebenbei die Aquarellmaltechnik bei. Ab 13 führten Gesangsstunden dazu, dass es ein Küken im Ensemble der Neuköllner Kammeroper gab.“
Mit 17 begann Silvias Herz beim Klang der Beatles, des Rock und Soul höher zu schlagen. Doch es dauerte einige Jahre, in denen sie sich der Lebenskunst und der Grafikausbildung widmete, bevor sie sich dem Rock und Soul mit Leib und Seele verschrieb.
Herbst 77 holte sie ein guter Freund aus dem Tiefschlaf mit den Worten: „Wenn du nicht sofort bei dieser Band anrufst, rede ich kein Wort mehr mit dir! “ Innerhalb weniger Tage war Silvia Mitglied der 11- köpfigen Jazz-Funk-Latin-Formation Airship, ihrer ersten Band. Zur gleichen Zeit lernte sie den Gitarristen Carlos Mieres aus Uruguay kennen. Sie heirateten, und 79 bis 88 war sie bekannt als Silvia Miéres. (sprich: Mjäres)
1980 wurde Silvia Lead Sängerin bei der Frauen-Rock-Band INSISTERS und machte Bekanntschaft mit New Wave, deutschen Texten, Punk-Rock, Jim Rakete, der Berliner Waldbühne, etlichen ausgeflippten Musikern und Groupies und dem Leben als Popstar, mit allem was dazu gehört. Zum Beispiel die Berliner Rock-Zirkus-Tour: Sechs bekannte deutsche Bands (Ideal, Morgenrot, PVC,Tempo und Z sowie die Insisters) gemeinsam in einem Bus auf Tour. Wild! Für Silvia und alle an Bord war es die unvergessene Berliner Version der „Magical Mystery Tour“.
Es kam hinzu, dass eine reine Frauen-Band wie die Insisters ein gefundenes Fressen für Medien, TV und Kino waren. In der DDR wurden Stücke der Band gecovert.
Mit dem SF-Rock-Spektakel Iron Girl erreichten die Insisters den schöpferischen Höhepunkt. Die gesamte Bühnengestaltung, inclusive Diashow, Lichtkonzept und s/w-Comic der Story als Promotion-Material kamen von Silvias Hand. Ebenso eine gewisse Anzahl der Songs. Durch dieses Projekt war die Gelegenheit entstanden, gemeinsam mit zwei der besten Jazz/Soul-Sängerinnen Deutschlands, Ackie Murray und Jocelyn B. Smith, zu singen.
Ende 84 nahm Silvia in Kuala Lumpur als deutsche Vertreterin beim Golden Kite World Song Festival teil. Kurz darauf gründete sie die Band Number Nine. Mit englischsprachigen und melodicrockigen Eigenkompositionen, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Keyboarder Johannes Fuchs, konnte sie sich musikalisch weiter entwickeln. Sie stellte fest: „Singen ist ein Zustand.“ Number Nine machte schnell auf sich aufmerksam und ließ allgemein aufhorchen.
1990 machte Silvia als Mitglied des Reineke Fuchs-Ensembles, unter der Leitung von Doris Heiland, ein paar Abstecher ins Rock-Theater. Sie wirkte mit bei Sehnsucht nach Wüste, Rabenschwarz, Pflasterhymnen und Cinderella, das 5-sprachig in Portugal aufgeführt wurde. Für ein halbes Jahr und über 130 Aufführungen wirkte sie mit in der Revue Unsere Republik an der Berliner Tribüne. Es war die musikalisch-unterhaltsame Interpretation deutscher Geschichte, vom Ende des 2. Weltkriegs bis zum Mauerfall.
Unterdessen arbeitete Silvia immer häufiger in Tonstudios. Neben Musikproduktionen und Werbe-Jingles wurde sie oft als Synchrosängerin für TV-und-Kinoproduktionen geholt . Disney-Filme wie: König der Löwen, Aladdin, Glöckner von Notre Dame, Tom und Jerry, Charlie/Alle Hunde kommen in den Himmel, sind einige davon. „Phantastisch, man ist Musiker und verdient auch noch Geld damit!“
Studioaufnahmen mit deutschen, amerikanischen und englischen Musikern wie Lüül, Heinz Glass, Volker Heller, Miko, Martin Moss, She´s China, Christian Kneisel, John C. Barry, Ted Pierce und Ron Spielman waren großartige Erfahrungen.
Ebenso die Auftritte, Gastspiele und Sessions mit Gom Jabbar, She´s China, Heinz Glass Band, Cocker Cover-Band, Pete Wyoming Bender, Ron Randolf, Miko, Ackie Murray, The Deep, Frank Dietz, Franz deByl, Motown Lovers, Keith Tynes, Udo Lindenberg, Jocelyn B. Smith, Pecks is Food und den Kieler Sprotten. Seit Ende 2006 singt sie in der Wayne Grajeda Band und bleibt weiterhin offen für neue Projekte.

Silvia Christoph’s soulful voice has stirred German audiences for many years. Among only a few of the successful artists who have recognized her talent and with whom she has collaborated are Udo Juergens, Udo Lindenberg, Vicky Leandros, Roland Kaiser or Frank Zander.
“I first performed on stage for the public when I was only three years old. My mother accompanied me on guitar. We would sing popular so-called Schlager songs and folk songs with two part harmonies. When I was eight I studied piano and voice harmony but also watercolor painting. Singing lessons led to a fledgling position in the Neukoellner Kammeroper performing classical music when I was thirteen.”
By the time Silvia was seventeen her heart began to feel the beat of a different sound, the Beatles, rock and soul. Still it took several years for her to complete her graphic design education before she could dedicate body and soul to rock and soul.
In 1977 Silvia was startled out of a deep sleep by a friend with the words, „If you do not immediately call this band I will never speak to you again.” Within days she had joined the 11 person Jazz-Funk-Latin group called Airship. It was during this time that Silvia met the Uruguayen guitarist Carlos Mieres. They were married and for the next 11 years she was known as Silvia Mieres.
In 1980 Silvia became the lead singer of the female rock band INSISTERS and was introduced to New Wave, German lyrics, punk-rock, star photographer Jim Rakete, Berlin’s 24,0000 seat amphitheater “Waldbuehne”, flipped out musicians and groupies and in general the craziness of a pop-star with all the trappings associated with it. For example, the „Berliner Rock Circus“: Six famous German bands (Ideal, Morgenrot, PVC, Tempo and Z as well as the Insisters) together in one bus on tour. Wild! For Silvia and everyone on board it was an unforgettable German version of the “Magical Mystery Tour”.
It was also the right moment for a female band like the Insisters because it was just what the media, TV and films were wating for. Some of the bands songs were even covered in the DDR (East Germany).
The Insisters reached their creative high-point with the science fiction rock spectacle titled “Iron Girl”. The complete stage design, including slide show and light concept, as well as its unusual comic book promotional material, were created by Silvia. Musically the event gave her the chance to sing with two of the best jazz/soul vocalists in Germany, Ackie Murray and American Jocelyn B. Smith, She also contributed a several songs performed to the show.
In 1984 Silvia was selected to represent Germany at the Golden Kite World Song Festival held in Kuala Lumpur. Shortly thereafter she founded the band Number Nine. For the next four years she performed the music she loved with English lyrics and her own melodic rock songs composed together with keyboardist Johannes Fuchs.
In 1990 as a member of the nationally recognized Reineke Fuchs-Ensemble directed by Doris Heiland Silvia made forays into rock-theater. She was a featured star in Sehnsucht nach Wüste (Desire for the Desert), Rabenschwarz (Black As A Raven), Pflasterhymnen (Anthem of the Pavement) and Cinderella, which was performed in Portugal. For half a year she appeared in over 130 performances of the Revue Unsere Republik, at the Berliner Tribüne, a musical covering the history of Germany from the Second World War to the fall of the Iron Curtain.
Around this time Silvia entered the world of recording studios. She synchronized vocals for TV and film productions, notably Disney films such as „The Lion King“, „Aladdin“, „The Hunchback of Notre Dame“, „Tom and Jerry“, „Charlie“ and *“All Dogs Go To Heaven“, among others. “It was amazing to be a musician and earn real money.” It was also great to record with German, American and English acts like Lüül, Heinz Glass, Volker Heller, Miko, Martin Moss, She’s China, Christian Kneisel, John C. Barry, Ted Pierce and Ron Spielman.
Since then Silvia has appeared with Gom Jabbar, She´s China, Heinz Glass Band, Cocker Cover-Band, Pete Wyoming Bender, Ron Randolf, Miko, Udo Lindenberg, Pecks is Food, Ackie Murray, The Deep, Frank Dietz, Franz deByl, Motown Lovers, Keith Tynes, Jocelyne B.Smith and Kieler Sprotten. Since 2006 Silvia has sung with the Wayne Grajeda Band and continues the search for new and interesting projects.
